  • Found Puppies. Want One?

Yesterday I woke up at 6:30 as usual to do my running before it got him.  My right leg didn't really appreciate it much, my muscles were kind of sore and stiff, but I got out their anyway and was running at a pretty good clip.

The 1 mile mark came up a lot faster than usual, but my leg still hurt and was getting worse, so I figured I would stop at the 1 mile mark and walk back. Then my dad came around the bend.

At first, I just saw a figure with two small objects at his heels, as he was kind of obscured by a bush and the curve in the road. I figured it was probably the neighbor, walking his dogs.  ... But our neighbor is never out this early and he has a German Shepherd.

My dad came around the bend just then and I could now see 2 puppies nipping at his heels.  None of our neighbors have puppies, what's going on?  So I turned on the speed and sprinted the rest of the mile and up to my dad.

He said, "I bet this is a sight you didn't expect to see!"

Apparently, as he was running that morning (he runs earlier than I) a truck that we've never seen before passed him on the road. Now, in a town our size, and a road as untraveled as ours, you know everyone's cars and who drives by when.  So he kept running until he came to the gravel section of our road. Two lab puppies dashed out of the woods and started barking at his heels.

Finally he had to stop, he tripped over them so many times and he started to walk home when he met me.  I took them the rest of the way home, gave them some water.  They are really cute puppies, a black  and chocolate lab.  Right now their names are Beatrice and Mo.

We believe they're purebred labs, but we don't know, obviously, the truck dumped them on our road.

    Anyone want a puppy?

We're trying to find homes for them, since we already have a dog, and we do not have time to take care of and train two puppies.  We'll be taking them to an animal collection place today, since no one's spoken for them so far.

  • Trip to the National Museum of American History

While we were in Maryland we visited the National Museum of American History in DC.

Some of you probably heard of the metro wreck on June 22nd.  This affected out journey quite a bit, since we had to take the metro, and the closed section of the metro was in the middle of the Red Line (our track).

So we rode the metro for two stops then had to get onto a shuttle and be shuttled down the line to the next open station.

Then there was some confusion with our tickets, but they eventually sorted it all out.

When we arrived at the DC Mall it took us awhile to locate the museum and we ended up walking 2 miles that day. There was some sort of festival going on at the moment, too, so it was rather crowded.  We didn't stop to see any of the monuments (seen 'em before), but I saw them from a distance.

It took us a total of three hours to get from my grandpa's house to the museum.  A bit ridiculous, considering the how close they are.

We got to see my friend Sarah (Owl) and talk with her for a bit and then we saw the Star Spangled Banner display, saw the flag, and then saw a skit(?) put on by a lady who pretended to be the woman who crafted the original star spangled banner.

Sarah and I (I'm grimacing in this picture, no idea why)

    Sarah

Did you know it was originally 42 X 30 feet long?   The flag has lasted through the years but it's not about 32 X 30 feet long and is missing a star.  People took snippets of it as mementos after the war and it's disintegrated a bit over the years.  It's now in a dark room under glass in the Smithsonian.  No photography allowed, though, we saw plenty of people who either couldn't read the signs or just plain didn't care.

Putting down the 15 stars with audience volunteers

Outside the star spangled banner display there were three ladies demonstration bobbin lace making and tatting.  Really cool.  One lady had a really complicated bobbin lace pattern going and another was doing a very simple one and letting others try it.  The lady who was tatting had some really pretty bookmarks.  She says she makes her students tat a whole yard before letting them move on to anything else.  I really need to find my tatting shuttle.

We were going to go to another display that had a bunch of dresses the first ladies had worn, but the line was super long, and my mom wanted to go home, and I had a headache, so we ended up not going through that.

The ride home actually only took 1 hours because they had reopened the closed section of the red line.

It was a fun trip, but I wish it could have lasted longer, with all the effort it took to get out there.

  • A New Skirt

I created a new skirt the other day. :)   Thought y'all might like to see it.

I worked on it on the way to Maryland.

Here's my mom at a gas station on the way up.  I helped drive up here, btw.

And here's what I did on the way, other than drive. I hemmed my skirt.  It's a huge hem.

Here's the finished product.  Sorry about the background. That's the carpet at my grandpa's house. Kind of old.

Close up on the embroidery on the side

I made this skirt to replace this skirt.

This skirt is about five years old and very worn out, as you maybe can tell from the picture.  It's my favorite skirt, or was, before I made my new one.

The old one was an elastic waist banned skirt and had an underskirt that was annoying to deal with. It was also calf length.

This new skirt is floor length and has different color tiers. The fabric is also thicker, requiring no underskirt, and it has a yoke and zippered waist.

  • Off to Maryland (My blog titles are much the same)

Tomorrow my mom and I go to Maryland.   15 hour drive, and joy of joys, I'm helping drive. xP  Should be interesting. I've never driven farther than 1 1/2 hours at a stretch before.  It will also be in my aunt's truck, which I have never driven before.

We're going to MD because my grandpa has to have his pace maker's battery replaced and since my mom is the oldest  girl in her family, she's the one who goes up to stay with him when he has surgery of some kind.  I'm going to 1. help her drive 2. keep her company and 3. provide entertainment.  I can be funny. Sometimes.

If you see a big red truck on its way to MD tomorrow with a short blonde driving, it might be me!  ...  But probably not.  In fact, it's very unlikely.

Oh, by the way, I spent ALL day today making a 5 tierd camo skirt. It's pretty spiffeh.  I embroidered it a bit, too.  I still need to hem it and do a bit of tacking, but other than that, it's done. Pretty good for a day's work.  I also had to pack and clean a bathroom and vaccuum the rec room.

Anyway.  I'll be in MD this week, don't know how long  and I will have my laptop with me.
